  • Indian Epics Retold
–R. K. Narayan ISBN 0670868248
Pretty much a disappointment. I was interested in the Ramayanam part, considering it was based more on Kamban’s version, which I have been less-exposed to. The first striking thing in the book is the unbelievable number of spelling mistakes! Penguin guys don’t proof-read is it? I would suggest buying the third part of the book “Gods, Demons and others” ISBN 8121500931. Sundeep Prakashan claims it’s now out of print though… (costs just Rs. 375 in India)

Managed to get it from DK Publishers Distributors (http://www.dkpd.com/) – the guys were pretty prompt in delivering the books. Free shipping too. Delighted to have the book back!!!

Just like the book on Mahabharata, this is also an extraordinarily well-written book, with the focus on the morals and not just on the historical events. A phenomenal piece of work.
